North America 3rd largest booking broker

North America’s 3rd highest booking broker

Top 3 for 14 consecutive years

Going to boat shows around the world is breathtaking and hard work at the same time. The organizers reward the top ten brokers with complimentary inscribed broker bags in which to place their dock floor plans, ball point pens and writing pads for various notes. I also use my broker's bag to house my camera that i use to take photos of the yacht and crews. The reason for the broker bags is to thank those hard working booking brokers and to tell the crews on board each yacht, that this is one of the top booking brokers they have on board.

Starting from about 2001 Barrington-Hall broke into the top 3 highest booking brokers and this continued until 2015, when we changed our direction slightly. We find that quality is far better than quantity, so we selected the lower priced high-end mono-hulls and the lower priced good quality catamarans and the lower priced quality power boats and decided not to venture below those Fresh benchmarks. It is so important that our guests enjoy THEIR vacation without any problems. We have found this to be a far better way to do business but we do not get every client who comes to us for answers, but we remain in the top 5 booking brokers.

A wonderful reason for success is THAT we concentrate on fully crewed yacht vacations worldwide, we do not do villa rentals, no bare boat Yacht rentals, no captain only rentals. We have also changed our industry, where we have some of the crews contract directly to us as well as the owner. This is the first time this has been done and the one reason is to get better crew to serve our guests. The crew represent Barrington-Hall so they better do a better job for our guests.

What is our job as a charter broker? It is just one simple fact; our guests must shed tears of joy on their last day of vacation. Nothing else.

Our service to our guests today is tomorrow’s reputation.

ultimate yacht vacation

Your ULTIMATE VACATION experience is right here!

Barrington-Hall private yacht charters around the world, we rent private yachts with captain and crew teams in most destinations, but guests’ most popular destinations remain: Caribbean, Bahamas, French/Italian Riviera and Greece.

STEP # 1. Your broker

It is wise get the right broker who has cruised all these locations in a private yacht and or captained vessels in these locations, because that broker/brokers generally know exactly what they are doing and are very serious about making sure their guests get the best and see the better anchorages in those various locations. Barrington-Hall know which is “THE” best one week of the year and which is the best week of each month, and we explain why. Not all brokers are the same, 10% of brokers treat this profession as a full-time profession, the rest dabble in the industry. Barrington-Hall and staff have two professionals captains who have both remained within Barrington-Hall since 1995. We treat this industry as our full-time profession and have done so since inception. We travel to various boat shows around the world, so that we know the boats and the captains and their crew teams. Annual boat shows we attend are Greece, Genoa, Antigua, Tortola and the USVI boat shows. The better we know the crew and their yachts, the better your vacation.

It is your broker who shares with you, where to go and what to do, we were by far the first company to set up example itineraries with our own pictures to show guests where they are going to be. We want our guests to be as educated as possible about their selected yacht and location. Once you speak to Andrew or any one of the Barrington Staff you have reached the top private yacht company out there, no need to look for other brokers. You will always reach one of our staff 24-7 and a live person always answers the telephone, unless all lines are occupied. You will never here the words, Hi your call is important to me I am away from my desk, leave a message and I will get back to you. If your call is important to them, then a live person will answer it, no excuses. It is also your broker’s duty to keep all guests away from open ocean crossings, when you cross an open ocean passage it is there where the ocean swells are and this is where guests get motion sickness. It is virtually impossible to be uncomfortable with the guidance of a top yacht charter broker. We provide our clients with material that enhances their yacht rental with us. We do not do “bare boat” rentals, no “captain only” rentals, all our yachts around the world are fully crewed.

Give our telephone number 954-720-0475 to family and friends, just in case of emergencies, I am the only person they will get at 2am 3am and 4 am, this includes week-ends. If you read STEP # 1, you know we are the only company for you in the world. Your ultimate decision is to first select the right broker…….

STEP # 2. Yacht rental.

Do not plan your trip in advance, get the right broker who will share with you everything you need to know about your itinerary. Now is not the right time to plan your itinerary, there is far more important things to do. We want your mind fresh and clear to do only one thing and that is select the boat you wish to enjoy and the crew you wish to enjoy. Clear your mind and ask your broker which yachts he/she suggests for your location. What a top broker does here is carefully select vessels he/she feels will fit your party -family or adults, active, passive, take it as it comes, cuisine, water sports, land sports, drinking party, normal drinkers, no drinkers, expensive weekly cost or normal. Many aspects effect your brokers mind, so it is wise for a top broker to provide a maximum of 3-5 vessels for you to select from. This means your broker has selected what he/she feels is the very best yacht for you and then we motivate which one meets your needs the best. Not all of us think the same, so if guests find a vessel on the internet first tell us the name of that yacht, you may have selected one he nearly placed on your top list, so it is a good one, or he/she may have walked far away from what you found on the internet.. Be careful we are dealing with people and some may not meet the standard we expect our guests to enjoy during their vacation. As a broker my job is not to save our guests $500 or $1,000 my job is to make sure we get the right yacht for our guests. We know when a saving of $800 is a good deal and only then will we tell our guests. Most owners simply offer specials because they cannot get enough business. Make a big note of the boats that have a 3 minute video, plus color brochures, these are generally the owners who give brokers the best tools to work with to solicit one week yacht rentals, so these are generally the better vessels to pay for. Our very first e-mail to our guests featuring various vessels will also has one example picture itinerary. This is more to show you what can be done than anything else, but everything is planned by myself at the appropriate time.

STEP # 3.

From the 5 vessels provided by your top yacht charter broker you can study their water toys, their after charter happy letters, their cabin layouts, their deck space for sun tanning, specifications, and crew profile plus look at the crews pictures, then peek at their different weekly rates. If one or two water toys are not on board the yacht you like, your yacht charter broker can have that placed on board for a small rental fee. Look at the year of manufacture, with Caribbean catamaran charters this is vital to your vacation because two different items have been manufactured into 2011-2017 catamarans, (some manufacturers have missed this even to today), but a top yacht charter broker will point out, each new Caribbean catamaran that have walk around beds in their cabins, better comfort for guests. The new sky lounge is an added 3 rd floor to the roof of these new catamarans, this is where guests sun tan, or sit next to their captain while cruising between the islands. This new sky lounge is where guests enjoy sunsets, high in the air with happy hour drinks and treats. Once guests charter a catamaran with walk around beds and a sky lounge they never want anything else. catamaran vacations will never be the same again, they just seem to be evolving. Many features on Caribbean power yachts, or all modern power yachts separate them as well and as long as the owner has maintained vessels correctly they can look brand spanking new even after many years chartering.

Take “Christina O” – this yacht belonged to Aristotle Onassis, who wooed Jackie Kennedy in the late 1960’s and this 1932 yacht was recently totally upgraded and looks magnificent inside. But many guests like the new modern sleek look, so the recently designed vessels from 2005 onward well maintained are generally the ones guests gravitate to today.

STEP # 4. Checking all details.

Having your broker provide your selected yachts means you do not need to look on the internet, that has been take out of the equation because of the work already done by your broker. You can comfortably look on the internet, but always ask your broker what he/she feels about the yacht you found. This is also an industry where selecting the cheap yachts can bring headaches. WE always suggest all our guests take out trip insurance, we can do this and also cover your airline seats as well as the cost of your yacht. Virgin Island yachts are normally price weekly and are all inclusive, because they know traveling is short and sweet, so price for fuel is generally no problem. The rest of the world price differently because no person can guess where guests are going to ask their captain where to go, so the big factor is fuel. If you ask for caviar, with expensive wines and champagnes, it can drive up costs as can docking one, or every night. So this is how all other vessels are priced for one week.

They have a base rate say $40,000 this is plus expenses + tax (if any). Barrington-Hall always total up all costs for all our guests.

Plus Expenses: The A.P.A. (Advance Provisioning Allowance). This sum is estimated at 35% of the total charter fee. The captain keeps all the receipts for the expenses and at the end of the charter will hand you receipts and the cash change. If costs exceed estimated APA, then additional funds will be required to cover outstanding bills upon disembarkation. APA covers, fuel, food, drinks, water, dockage and any costs incurred by your power yacht during your charter.

Plus expenses on a catamaran can be between 20%-25% or 30% depending on location and owners. Whatever money is not used during the week is refunded to guests. 90% of all our guests get a refund on their last day with a print-out of expenses.

STEP # 5 reservations:

Now to make reservations and payments. The earlier you book your trip the sooner you get the best vessel and best crew. 10 Months to 7 months is the normal booking time period. Here is how “YOU” do this. Let’s say you and some friends have a BBQ to get together to discuss such a trip and 3 agree to pay one third of the fees, then at this stage all 3 of you have settled on a provisional yacht. Call me immediately and I place a hold on the yacht for your trip. You are not obligated to this hold in anyway, I can drop the hold, you can change dates, or the boat and do a fresh hold. The hold in the Caribbean is good for 14 days and I can extend the hold for a further 14 days. The rest of the world has zero hold periods, whoever pays first gets the yacht. Generally we can go closer to the time of departure with selecting your yacht. No one is going to hold it. When these companies deal with Barrington-Hall they know we are serious, they will hold your yacht for us, as respect, but generally for 1 week.

At this stage we have not discussed itinerary in anyway. We have not discussed your cuisine or your drinks, again it is smart to keep your mind clear so you select the yacht you want & your Barrington-Hall yacht charter broker is comfortable with your crew & knows all the sweet points about your yacht you have your eye on.

STEP # 6: the booking process:

First a hold is placed on the yacht you have selected. The idea of the hold is, so no one books the yacht you have selected to enjoy while you read and sign the agreement, date it and e-mail back to Barrington-Hall. Once this is done from your side, e-mail the signed agreement to us, then mail us the original and your check payment to us, or you can wire the funds to us. We would get your signed agreement the same day and send to the owner for his signature. Owners have 20 days to sign your agreement but normally send back after a few days. I will also let the owner know I have your deposit and he in turn sends us your agreement signed by all parties, it is only then that we send them your deposit, which is contracted to be placed in their escrow account where the owner cannot touch the funds. You can now go ahead and purchase airline seats and do this as soon as possible, the airlines normally raises rates the closer we get to boarding times. It is now that we automatically mail our guests a complimentary package, this package would contain items related to your vacation like a WELCOME MAGAZINE if in the Virgin Islands. This is a fun package and we also send you a 5 page food and bar preference sheet, this is a tick-off program so write what you do not wish to eat and your professional chef will attend to this in detail.

Now when the deposit has been paid to Barrington-Hall and the agreement has been signed by all parties it is time to discuss trip insurance as well as discuss an example itinerary.

STEP # 7 Now for your example itinerary:

EXAMPLE ITINERARY

The more ideas shared with you means you have smarter answers for your captains first question for you—That is “WHERE DO YOU WISH TO GO AND DO?” That question is his first when you are on board, but we are not on board yet. 12-10 days prior to your vacation your captain and chef will call and confirm where to meet them. Your chef does not purchase any cuisine until she has discussed this with you.

At all times your broker is by your side, so call us for any questions no matter how small and give 954-720-0475 to family and friends for emergencies my telephone rings 24 -7.

Greece yacht charters: Our guests are under our umbrella from when they land in Athens until they get home. My agent in Greece personally sets up the limo when you arrive in Athens and you will meet my agent who introduces our guests to their captain and chef team. We do many catamaran trips in Greece but most are Greece power yachts.

USVI Pickup law

New Law Governing Chartering in the Virgin Islands Have Been Changed 2016

This new law : Charter yachts are now allowed to pick up 12 guests in the USVI and transport all, into the BVI.

Brokers, captains and central agents, such as Barrington-Hall are absolutely delighted this old derelict law set round 1984 is now redundant. This law prohibited any commercial charter yacht from picking up more than 6 guests in United States water and traveling across a 1.5 mile section into the British Virgin Islands. Over the years it cause many irritating issues, that is now gone.

TODAY groups of 12 guests can be picked up in St Thomas United States Virgin Islands, by a sailing yacht, Catamaran, or Power boat and transferred into the wonderful British Virgin Islands. For many many years this has been a huge issue, because airline flights are direct from Miami into St Thomas USVI. The Cyril E. King airport is an international airport, so she can accept the largest airlines. The British Virgin Islands has a small runway, which only accepts small jets, this means guests are forced to do two different sized airlines, when flying into and out of Beef Island Tortola British Virgin Islands. To do this guests had one stop in Puerto Rico (also an international airport) and take a puddle jumper (12-10 passenger plane into the BVI).

There were many different ways to get around this old law, but today we can now pick up 12 guests in US waters and transport 12 guests to the British Virgin Islands.

Catamaran Slivochka 59 foot is a high-end luxury catamaran charter vessel, which sleeps 10 guests, so in 2016 we have been picking up 10 guests in Crown Bay Marina in St Thomas USVI. The guests charter starts Immediately, with Christmas Cove, or Hawksnest Bay a perfect stop for guests first night on board. Slivochka (means my little plumb) is what we term brand spanking new she has walk around queen beds in her cabins, for guests comfort. Slivochka also has the new sky lounge which is a 3 rd section of floor on the roof of the catamaran and it is here where guests sun-tan, or sit next to their captain when cruising between the islands. It is also the sky lounge where guests watch sunsets, with happy hour treats in one hand and their favorite drink in the other. The sky lounge is high in the air. Only the new Caribbean catamarans enjoy these two options. SLIVOCHKA 3 minute VIDEO here: www.bitly.com/svochka set up for yacht charters and excited guests are keen to learn more about Caribbean Catamaran vacations.

A great way to describe a private yacht charter is: Your ultimate experience. Here is your private floating resort, which travels where you wish to go.

When looking to do a super yacht rental, make sure you get the best company to represent you.

All our vessels are fully crewed, which means a minimum of a personal top captain and a personal world-class chef. Slivochka is our top crewed catamaran. Your personal chef will customise your meals specifically for you and your party, no matter what you ask for. Having this 6 passenger rule now superseded means they crew also have less problems picking up split arrivals. Having been doing this since 1990 and being the one and only term catamaran in all of the virgin Islands in those early years means we know when new laws make guests chartering much easier and Barrington-Hall are delighted with this new change. Now when guests aim at BVI catamaran charters, they have a one-way ticket to their boat no matter what it is. We concentrate on BVI yacht charters.

They are one of the island groups which constitute the Aegean archipelago and the name refers to the islands around the sacred island of Delos. These group of islands, some close together are the perfect yacht charter destination for most Greek yachts. The Cyclades comprise about 220 islands, the major ones being Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kímolos, Kythnos, Melos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Folegandros, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Syros and Santoríni. Most of the smaller islands are uninhabited.

SELECT A YACHT TYPE:

The Cyclades islands are peaks of a submerged mountainous terrain, with the exception of two volcanic islands, Milos and Santorini (Thera). The climate is generally dry and mild, but with the exception of Naxos the soil is not very fertile; agricultural produce includes wine, fruit, wheat, olive oil, and tobacco. Cooler temperatures are in higher elevations and mainly do not receive wintry weather. The Cyclades are bounded to the south by the Sea of Crete. The Cycladic Islands enjoy a Mediterranean climate, with an average temperature for the year of 64 to 67 degrees. The winters are mild and the summers - by Greek standards - cool, thanks to the beneficial effects of the seasonal winds known as the “meltemi”.

Yacht Sales

Yacht Sales

Barrington Hall Yacht Sales - boats for sale
Have you dreamed of a private yacht purchase and changing your lifestyle, taking advantage of mega yacht sales or even beautiful pre-owned yacht and cruising into the islands to lose the daily chores of the past? Many do, and this dream can cloud the purchasing of a luxurious yacht, so the best advice is to find a company who has its finger on the pulse of the industry and who can readily guide you into safe waters, regardless of the size of a previously enjoyed or new luxury motor yacht.

We specialize in the sales of pre-owned luxury yachts, catamaran sailboats, power yachts and other yachts that are of a turnkey operation, where the charter business is already in place, and the yacht purchase is already successful. There are many reasons for owners selling their power yachts. Most of these yachts are being sold because the owners of these luxurious yachts are upgrading to a larger vessel; others may have taken advantage of mega yacht sales step-downs and further take advantage of the availability of catamaran sailboats, power boats, power yachts, super yachts or smaller luxury yachts.

Barrington Hall Charter Yacht Sales

We have been part of the national and international charter yacht business since 2001. This puts us in a unique position to know which yachts are for sale and can find out how many charters the yachts book within a given year providing you a unique perspective of what you might expect to receive in revenues to offset some of the costs of yacht ownership.

This chartered yacht's information is derived without the input of the owners of the used boats, who are looking to sell their charter yachts, thereby making our figures more accurate. Within the yacht sales industry, the charter rate of yachts are known, so calculating the accurate gross income in a season is reasonably easy in 90% of cases.

Knowing the future potential of a charter yacht is also what we do. We do not carry every pre-owned charter yacht or boat for sale, but we do carry a good number of power yachts, sailboats and catamarans as well as other boats for sale. If a client locates a pre-owned yacht or yachts for sale, first contact us to see if she is charter material. Any yacht with a charter history means Barrington-Hall can calculate what to do to raise rates, or knowing exactly how much more money can be generated by a particular yacht.

This normally means good solid charter yacht brochures are already in place, assuring success from the mega yacht sales or luxury yacht sales market. Some vessels now have videos as well. See yachts offered for sale by Barrington Hall

Every charter yacht, whether it is new or used, luxury catamaran, sailboat or even mega yacht, has its first year as a “first loser year”.

The first loser year means: When a yacht has never chartered before, this is what every yacht needs to do to become established. It is a loser year. In your first year of chartering, most companies predict 6-8 one-week charters, which means there are many weeks in the year where your captain and crew are not doing charters. You have just paid $10,000 for new brochures; your marketing is being put in place; this marketing needs to mature. You have commenced your season like all the other owners, where you started with the boat show. All the charter brokers have seen your vessel for the very first time. Now your captain and crew sit and wait for charters, and they say you can expect 6 or 8 charters in this first year.

How to “not” pay for the initial first year costs
Purchasing a second hand yacht is a smart decision. One with a charter history is a good thing, because the flow of dollars into the yacht should not stop. Because brokers do not know that the owner has changed hands, booking goes on like normal. Smart new owners should not touch anything for a year on their fresh purchase of a charter yacht, unless the change is discussed with Andrew at Barrington-Hall. If a yacht and crew team are making good money why change the system? I have seen owners damage themselves by doing that. Until an owner knows exactly how the entire system works, leave the chartering side to your captain to deal with.

Yes, there are a few charter yacht owners who do make money chartering; some owners have 2 running vessels, even in the year 2013, because it does make sense to them. These are the owners who know how important advertising is, how important the right crew are, how important the right vessel is. Most charter yacht owners do not make any money, and it is their own fault. Chartering is a very serious business, and some owners do not do what is needed to run a business within the system. Here is an example: The owners of charter yachts do not want to spend money on a hard copy yacht charter color brochures; that is a wonderful tool that makes them money. They do not want to spend money making a video of their charter yacht; this is a wonderful tool that “all” owners need if it is private yacht charters they want. Do you wish to make money chartering? We do what is needed to give the worldwide brokers the tools to sell your yacht. The smart owners who have these tools are fully booked.

Good Broker

What an excellent yacht broker does to enhance your luxury yacht vacation

A yacht charter vacation comprises many variables that will ensure your vacation is a adventure to remember. What is the weather like? The best catamarans sailboats and power yachts? The best anchorages and the best time of year for yacht chartering? Most of this information will only be available from an experienced yacht broker who the knowledge about the charter yachts and charter destinations.

There are thousands of charter yachts available in many different locations including the Mediterranean, Bahamas, French Riviera, British Virgin Islands, Caribbean, Greek Islands and the South Pacific. A charter yacht broker is the link between you and your ideal charter yacht. After all choosing the right location, coupled with the perfect yacht and crew are the best ingredients of a recipe to create excellent yacht charter vacation memories.

How important is choosing the right yacht charter company for your luxury yacht vacation?

It is vital to select the right yacht company when planning your charter vacation. Yacht charter brokers represent you at no cost to you; it is the owner of the yacht you select who pays their commissions.

A good broker is unbiased, even when owners offer them higher commission.

An excellent yacht charter broker and company will never compromise your yacht vacation by recommending a yacht that is not of the highest standard. Make sure that your broker has years of experience in the charter industry, normally 10-15 years and above. These are the agents who offers private yachts as their sole business focus. Ask the yacht broker you are considering “Is this your main source of business income?” Brokers who work on a part-time basis or have very few years of experience usually do not possess the knowledge to make sure that you get the best possible adventure that your money will buy.

A charter company and its brokers can point out the best week of the month and year to schedule your charter and be able to explain the reasons why they are making the recommendation.

While you may not be able to go on a vacation on the recommended dates due to scheduling conflicts such as the children's school or your other obligations, the ideas and the wisdom are shared with you for planning future vacations.

Choosing the Best Yacht Charter Company

catamaran chartersMy suggestion to clients looking to charter a private yacht for vacation or corporate event is first to select their broker to represent them. The best yacht brokers work are those that are actively working with all the yachts in our industry on a daily basis as many of the 'yacht brokers' book yachts as a part time business. Working with a company whose full time business is chartering yachts gives you tremendous advantages including having the experience of someone who have arranged thousands of successful yacht charters.

Additionally, having built up trust and relationships with the yacht owners, captains and crews you can rest assured that if by chance there are any problems, you, our guest has a team dedicated to solving them immediately. Rarely does 'something' serious happens, but when it does you want to know that with just a single phone call that it will be resolved fast and efficiently. You're on vacation and do not want hassles or aggravations to interfere with having a fun and relaxing time.

Here is an example of a situation that has rarely come up and how it was resolved. The owner of a luxury power boat called me 2 days before the charter for was to begin for my guests to tell me that he has bad news "my engine is down and as such it will not be possible to take the guests on their scheduled charter vacation". This yacht was a 100 foot motor yacht chartered for 6 guests. You can imagine how disappointed the clients would have been had we had to cancel their trip, especially on such short notice.

Even though the clients had purchased trip insurance and would have been reimbursed for the cost of their trip we immediately began the search for another yacht in the same region to take over the charter. The search started by us looking for a power boat that was the same size or larger as the original 100 footer. Fortunately, we found one that was even larger and just 62 miles away which was sufficient enough time for the new yacht to cruise to pick up the clients at their at the original location. As well we were able to arrange to have the boat provisioned with all the guests preferred foods and drinks prior to their boarding!

Having contacted the owner of this yacht, he told us that he could have his captain do the charter, but their rate turned out to be $6,300 more expensive that the first boat. Because we had a long standing relationship with this owner we were able to negotiate a price that matched the other yacht - a bigger, better yacht for the same amount of money! Needless to say that the guests were delighted that they were still going on their much anticipated vacation with the added bonus of having a 108 footer with more cabin space for guests at the same price. This is where the best yacht charter company can save the day and your charter moves forward without a hitch.

Knowledge of Yachts and Crews

Professional yacht brokers have been on board most of the charter yachts worldwide in the four major yacht destinations: the Bahamas, the Caribbean, the French Riviera and Greece. These are the brokers who are acquainted with the crews and all the different qualities of each yacht. While a broker may not be able to visit every single yacht, all charter companies will have equal access to all the yachts worldwide.

Making Informed Choices

It is the broker’s responsibility to present their clients with as much useful information regarding the yachts and crew, as well as the destinations to enable the guests to make the best decisions to ensure their yacht charter experience is joy-filled and memorable.

There are 3 different types of charter yachts available for your vacation: Sailing Yachts (mono-hulls), Catamaran Sailboats and Power Yachts. All are fully crewed.

Make sure you have the most qualified yacht charter company to ensure that you have the right team looking out for your best interests as not all brokers are the same.

power yacht charters

The Yacht

Generally, all private yachts are manufactured for independent owners. They were not designed for the charter industry, yet many do fit different niches. Unless you are looking at a luxury catamaran charter, it would be rare to find a power yacht with equal queen sized cabins.

Power Yachts

All power yachts, no matter what size, are manufactured for its future owners who gave their requests to the yacht builder. Generally, the instructions are as follows. "I want a king-sized full-width master cabin for my me and my wife. The VIP cabin and the guest cabins need to have 2 queen-sized beds, all with their own facilities. Then give me one cabin which has 2 single beds either for the children or for bodyguards."

Sailing Yachts

Sailing yachts have the usual design limits controlling their manufacture but unlike power yachts, there are exceptions.

Catamaran Sailboats

The catamaran sailing yacht era has been born, and its acceleration through the sailing world is far more electric than anyone could have imagined. Today, catamaran sailing yachts have opened our small 7% industry in North America to a larger 70% industry, which is blossoming before all of us. The reason is 3 fold: catamaran sailboats do not tip over when sailing; these are the world’s most stable crafts at anchor and under sail. And finally the space inside is three times that of any vessel with the same length and this applies to the deck area as well. This enormous space now allows for total comfort, and allows for those large queen-sized cabins for all guests.

Some catamaran sailing yachts have 4 equal king-sized cabins; others have 1 king and 4 queens, and 2 of those queens can usually convert to single cabins as needed. Catamaran sailboats now provide the best of all worlds. Smart design has made all this possible. An example of a luxury Caribbean catamaran we feel is the world’s most luxurious catamaran is not a leather interior, but rather ostrich skin with soft cream furniture and everything related to luxury: Catamaran Kings Ransom. Catamaran King's Ransom is designed for 10 guests in 5 cabins and is the only catamaran sailboat currently available with walk-around beds. Walk-around beds are exactly what we get when we are in hotels; you can walk around your bed, except for the headboard side. This is rare in our industry unless you are looking at a 120-foot or larger mega yacht charter.

Age of a Charter Yacht

The age of a good charter yacht normally does not matter, whether it is brand new or about 10 years old. Your yacht charter owner knows that he has to keep his yacht in tip top condition, or he may lose a potential charter. Therefore linens, carpets, upholstery and general maintenance are vital for these owners. The best yacht charter brokers inspect these yachts on an annual basis and will not place their guests on a yacht that are not up to standard.

Catamaran sailboat cabins, with some exceptions, would generally be 3 or 4 equal queen- sized cabins; very few catamarans have cabins with single beds.

Charter Locations

Charter yachts are located in many destinations around the world. Some are ideal for chartering all year and others for just a few months. Talk to your knowledgeable yacht charter broker; he or she would have vital knowledge of the location you desire.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling in the Caribbean

SNORKELING in the Caribbean and Virgins Islands

Take full advantage of the warm water (almost the same temperature as your body) crystal clear tropical Caribbean Sea. No silver shock when you enter the water; it is simply inviting you to come on in and have fun. Your luxury yacht vacation provides the best way to get 100 percent out of your charter. This adventure is far too important for you to have an agent compromise your vacation, so select the best person for the job, no matter what size your yacht, 60 or 600 feet. It is your broker who provides information to make all your yacht charters better than the rest.

DANGERS. There are very few when on board a sailing yacht vacation.

Be sure to put on sunscreen before entering the water, as the water tends to hide sunburns and therefore could leave you with a false sense of security. There is very little danger for the wise snorkeler. Number one: have your captain snorkel with you every time you venture into the water. The fire coral is not as big a problem as it is made out to be. If you touch it with your tummy, back or hands, it will burn for a little while and stop. Jellyfish are around 2-3 days per year, and their stings are not very big. Smaller jellyfish have even a smaller sting; neither were ever a problem; just swim around them. I never saw the “bad” jellyfish in 5 years of snorkeling.

Barracudas: These proud fish look as if they are targeting you when they simply look at you, so keep away from barracuda. In 5 consecutive years of living there, barracudas were never a problem, but they are something not to take lightly.

Stingrays have never been any issue at all; they are like turtles, shy and unassuming and not to be fed by humans. Spiny blowfish are also timid and shy; one 62-year old gentleman put his finger into the mouth of a blowfish, and he lost the skin around the tip of his finger. That fish could have bitten through the bone, so do not be silly; these are all wild animals.

Possibly the biggest danger for vacationers is the spiny black urchin. When touched, their spines shoot into your flesh. One remedy is to place your hands in milk for a while. These barbs are very soft and cannot be pulled out with a needle, so your body simply has to work them out of your hand as best as possible. Neosporin and elastoplast to cover the wound are all you can do, and the pain remains for a very long time. Be careful of these black urchins. In 5 years, we only had one lady who we told not to walk into the black urchin patch and she did. Snorkeling at night, rather not. Now that these minor dangers are noted, let's go and have fun on board your luxury yacht.

Caribbean Yacht Charters
British Virgin Islands (BVI) - US Virgin Islands

Caribbean Power Yachts Caribbean Catamarans Caribbean Sailing Yachts

Many of the islands are edged with mangroves. The roots dip into the water and offer protection for all species of fish life, invertebrates, baby turtles, etc. I feel this is a second protection area for young sea life; the first protection area is the coral reefs themselves. The coral reef and all the life related to the coral is what keep all of us intrigued.

One of the world’s safest barrier reefs to snorkel is Couquelan Reef, 200 yards east of the Bitter End Yacht Club, and yet few people venture here to snorkel. Yes, they snorkel on the inside of this barrier reef, but it is the outside of this barrier reef that is alive with rainbow colored fish, sponges, and soft and hard coral. Coral faces the deep blue sea because the nutrients (food) come from that direction. So this is the “live” side of a barrier reef, and a luxury yacht can drop anchor very close.

The Virgin Islands only have 14-16 inches of tide change between spring low and spring high tides. This means very little undertow, if any, no large tracts of water moving in and out. This means swimming here is very safe indeed. The British Virgin Islands are possibly the world's safest location to swim, scuba and snorkel in deep water, knowing that there are very few currents. Naturally, I recommend that your captain take you snorkeling each time.

'Snowkeling' in Canada
If you are snorkeling in the snow then something is wrong.

Here is what you will see on the “live” side of this barrier reef: a virtual wall stretching up from 5 feet to 45 feet. Visibility is 70 feet in all directions, teeming with rainbow colored fish, pastel colored corals and sponges; you immediately know why it is called a barrier reef. With this visibility in all directions, you can see there are NO sharks or other dangers out there.. Your comfort level rises, and you settle down to exploring Mother Nature at her very best. These personal snorkeling yacht charters in the Virgin Islands may encourage some guests to purchase a yacht.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE during your Caribbean yacht charter. Your captain or guide will point out many items you miss. His trained eye picks up a small herd of red seahorses, the male holding and protecting his young. A lone sunfish 1 foot in diameter keeps his distance from your group, with his beady eye locked on you humans. A soft purple fan coral holds a flamingo tongue. Touch the mantle, and this pretty colored leopard-spotted mantle retracts to show a white shell. A large turtle swims casually past in the far distance. In the distance, a spotted eagle-nosed ray digs his nose into the soft sand, creating a furrow behind while touching under the sand for a fresh live angel shell to eat. His mate is close by, doing the same, tails stretched out in a long line 20 feet behind them.

Your yacht charter captain points out a slipper lobster, as well as those large Caribbean spiny lobsters. These are nocturnal but can be seen during the day. Butterfly fish and parrot fish go about their daily routines, giving humans a second glance. Pygmy conch and conch can be seen on the seabed as the odd sand dollar glistens in the bright sunlight. A section of the barrier reef drops to a forest of staghorn coral—real pretty!

Fan worms pop in at the first sign of danger and slowly ease out to full bloom afterwards. Red-banded coral shrimp show themselves to you as you go by a section of yellow live staghorn coral. Purple and yellow fish keep close to their homes, the odd black and white drums circle their protected nooks. Keep an eye open for large shells which move, live truppet shells, pygmy conch and conch shells; hermit crabs abound. Your yacht charter captain will point all these out to you as you glide past.

Children spend many hours each day snorkeling; the life they see underwater is so very different from what they have ever dreamed of. Underwater to most children is an unknown world which they wish to explore to the hilt. This is good clean fun for them, so encourage it.

Although TV's are always requested on board all charter yachts, they are seldom used. Every night without fail, the children enjoy their dinner and go to bed, knocked out from their action packed day and the clean fresh air taken into their bodies. I have never heard of any being bored on board a private Virgin Islands yacht charter. Adults are also mesmerized by the way life goes on and off underwater, and the crewed charter yacht is the very best way to enjoy this BVI vacation. The trained eye picks up far more than the novice, but it is wonderful to be a novice in underwater wonderland, provided you know you are very safe indeed.

Your private charter can bring you to any one of these wonderful eateries.
CAPRICCIO DI MARE: An Italian-style sidewalk café located across from the ferry dock in Road Town offers fresh pastries and cappuccino for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, there are pasta, pizza and salads. Here is a very popular sidewalk café where ladies meet to talk about their daily topics. Tea and cream scones, anyone? Capriccio is in the middle of Road Town, the capital of Tortola, BVI, a yachtsman’s Caribbean paradise.

Vacation with a difference
How do I find a vacation with a difference?
Do you want a vacation that is not the same hotel resort on the beach for 10 days? Yes, it is good to find your own beach, but I can show you 8 of your own beaches in 1 week. Would you like to bond with your children more during your time with them? Or bond with your aging Mom and Dad as a special treat to both of them.
Do you wish for cuisine fit for kings, queens, presidents and statesmen?
Would you like to be impressed by the service around you?
Is it body temperature warm water to swim in that you are after, and yes, the water has to be crystal clear?
Must crystal clear water come with white beaches and encrusted with coconut palms?
Do you demand to be where no one else can go, and yet also demand to be around the jet-setting vacationers?
Would you also wish to be in paradise, a word used far too much, but where Mother Nature did her best work?
You don't want to fly for hours and hours to get to your destination? The Virgins are just around the corner from the USA, perfect!

Scuba Diving in the Virgin Islands
In 1997, a magazine came out with a gorgeous "In Depth Guide for Scuba Divers in the BVI". This guide was 8 inches by 11.5 inches, all in glossy color, consisting of six pages plus a front and back cover. At the time, I got hold of 3 and quickly sent them out to scuba divers and could never get any more. The entire book had gone out of print. Everything I did to get copies of this dive book failed. I called England, the USA, and anywhere else I could find who could point me towards getting fresh copies. The printer said it was firmly out of print. Reluctantly, I gave up looking for this scuba guide.
In 2002, I was at a little shop in the BVI, and I noticed a shelf with 84 of these (old) gorgeous scuba dive booklets. I purchased all 84 copies, and the salesman thought I was daft. Today in 2014, and I count that I do have 18 of these scuba booklets still in our office. Yes, I have been giving these booklets to the scuba fanatics, so if you want one for your trip, kindly ask for one. It is the best scuba dive guide I have seen. We do have other scuba dive guides, but none has impressed me more than that old one. All the script below comes directly from that dive book.

Snorkeling Tips
Take full advantage of the warm water (almost the same temperature as your body), crystal clear tropical Caribbean Sea. No shiver shock when you enter the water; it is simply inviting you to come-on-in and have fun. Your Caribbean sailing vacation provides the best way to get 100 percent out of your yacht charter. There are barrier reefs in many of the islands of the Caribbean Coulequan Barrier reef, Bitter End Yacht Club, the barrier reef to Anegada, but snorkel on the outside of these barrier reefs not the inside. Horseshoe Barrier Reef, in the Grenadines is where we found a small shoal of pink and red seahorses, never found anywhere else. Snorkeling all over the Caribbean and Bahamas Islands is magnificent.

What’s Happening – The Island Beat
(Thanks to Jan Critchley of the British Virgin Islands)
Fun on Fisherman’s Day:
On Territory Day, July 1st, head to Long Bay Beach, Beef Island and take part in Fisherman’s Day. There are three categories – trolling, reef fishing and the family tournament, as well as beach games such as swimming races, diving, tug-of-war, soldier crab races and domino games. There will also be live music and a fashion show. Registration is at the Conservation and Fisheries Department by June 30th, and a valid fishing license must be obtained to take part in the trolling and reef fishing categories. So get out your bait, cast your line and, who knows, the “Big One” just might not get away!

The Annual 14 Day EMANCIPATION FESTIVAL in the British Virgin Islands
(By Jan Critchley of BVI fame)
Two weeks each summer, the British Virgin Islands come alive with one of the hottest festivals in the Caribbean. Commencing July 22 and continuing until August 5, the BVI explodes with a carnival atmosphere of parades, performances, dancing, horse racing, parties, boat races and many other special events. Tents are set up with rides for children and many other happy sports to have fun with.

The major attraction is the festival parade, which is held on the first Monday of August. Hundreds of people line the roadway to watch the decorated floats and Soca bands, all vying for “best float”. All floats are supported by colorful energetic troupes dancing their way to the festival village. Jumbies on stilts wander in and around them. This is an electric parade of gorgeous costumes, smiling faces, lots of dancing and music, as both parade participants and the crowd jump to the beat.

The Pelican Brief
While Gaile (my wife of 44 years) and I were chartering in the Caribbean learning all the anchorages for our guests, we used to take these free week-ends with friends and get lost in paradise just relaxing between charters. Gaile is one of those wonderful gentle folks who people, dogs, cats and birds are attracted to. When we were in the Virgin Islands, those single girls would gravitate to "Mother" Gaile, so there was forever a bunch of single girls hanging around our catamaran and the safety of "Mother" Gaile.

JOLLY ROGER: Located near the West End ferries, this nautical, breezy establishment offers International and West Indian specials, pizza, burgers and conch fritters. Jolly Roger is well named because Sopers Hole, or West End, was home to many pirates of the 1700-1715 times. This was the perfect concealed anchorage to hide away, where pirates could clean the bottom of their big vessels. They would take the pirate ship close to the side of the beach and roll the ship onto her side, then the crew scraped barnacles off the bottom. A sentry was posted 900 feet above as a lookout. When one side of the vessel was done, they turned the yacht around and rolled the other side. A clean ship’s bottom meant speed, and pirates need as much speed as possible. A good Caribbean feel can be enjoyed at the Jolly Roger. Open daily 8AM-12 Midnight; Late night menu available. Credit cards accepted. 284-495-4559.

RHYMER’S: Beach bar on Cane Garden Bay. Menu items include fish, ribs, conch and West Indian specialties. Rhymer’s is one of the most popular restaurants in Tortola because they do a good job, but it is location right on the big Cane Garden Bay’s white beach. Caribbean power boats anchor here at night, then come ashore to enjoy the music. Open daily from 8AM through dinner. Credit cards accepted. 495-4639

SUGAR MILL HOTEL:This romantic restaurant is an old sugar mill in Apple Bay serving elegant 4-course dinners; reservations required. SANDCASTLE: Home of the Soggy Dollar Bar (birthplace of the Painkiller) situated in a beachfront restaurant on beautiful White Bay. Accessible by boat only. LEVERICK BAY RESTAURANT: Lunch at this Virgin Gorda beach bar, then try dinner on the upstairs terrace. Menu items include steak, seafood and rack of lamb. Friday night beach BBQ. Accessible by boat only. Unless you are on Virgin Gorda, you can only get here by yacht or in a taxi; well worth the effort. Great cuisine and ambiance. Open daily 8AM-12 Midnight; Happy Hour 5PM-7PM. Reservations required. Credit cards accepted. 495-7154

LITTLE DIX BAY HOTEL INTERNATIONAL: Dine on the spacious terrace beneath a dramatic pavilion roof; Dress code applies. The Beach Grill serves an a la carte lunch. Accessible by boat only. One of my favorite restaurants. Dress is formal; service is impeccable. The cuisine is perfect, and it is expensive. The wine tastes better at Little Dix Bay Hotel. I had approached the manager and said if I brought my guests for dinner, could I anchor my catamaran within their bay for the night and the answer was YES, Captain Andrew, you are welcome. This went on for 2 years until the locals complained. I was the only one allowed to do this and they did not like it. My guests got the best as always. WILFRED’S POMATO POINT: Overlooking a spectacular beach, this is the place on Anegada to see the “green flash” while enjoying local dishes. This unique restaurant is accessible by boat only. No restaurant can be built like this one in America, so if you wish for a restaurant experience that is totally different from anything you have ever had in your life, then make Wilfred’s a must-do stop. This is the only spot where we have seen the "green flash" 5 times. When the horizon is clear of clouds and the sun disappears behind the horizon, the last quarter changes color to lime green. The yellow of the sun and the blue of the water make this change.

This is the one and only building that can be seen in this area. Wilfred built an A-frame home but left off the entire front wall of this house. As you walk inside, you see tables and chairs for seating. On the far left is a huge bar boasting every drink possible and on the opposite side of the seating lounge is a room dedicated to artifacts Wilfred has collected over the years including spoons, buttons of uniforms, typewriters, guns, knives, plates and dishes. This are is Wilfred’s museum. This ia an "honor bar" during the day as no one is at the house, so if you feel like having a drink, hop behind the bar, take whatever you want, and simply leave the cash. Yes, Wilfred has enjoyed having this honor bar for many years now. There is no one to steal, and all of us are honorable people after all. Caribbean catamarans, Caribbean luxury power boats and sail boats all stop in at Wilfred’s. Open daily for lunch and dinner; call for reservations by 4PM. 495-9466
